Meeting the President of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano
Monday September 18th, 2017
On 21 November 2014 I had one of the most special encounters of my life: as a winner of the 2013 edition of Premio Venezia, I was received by the President of the Italian Republic 2013, Giorgio Napolitano, at the Quirinal Palace, his residence in Rome.
After waiting for a short while in the Courtyard of Honour we were admitted to the First State Rome where the President usually meets informally with figures of high office. This was followed by a pleasant conversation in which the President expressed his curiosity about our careers, our interests, and more generally our musical aspirations.
After this we visited several rooms in the Palace as well as the renowned Pauline Chapel where the Quirinal Concerts are held and broadcast on Italian Radio.
Though short, it was an important encounter, and it took place, moreover, just a few weeks before the President resigned. It stands as an example of the attention and interest that certain important figures demonstrate towards young artists and their work.
Let’s hope to be there again soon!
